Is a salamander a reptile or an amphibian?

For part of its life, an amphibian has gills for breathing water. For part of its life, it has lungs for breathing in the open air, The amphibians have a bare skin    no scales, hair, feathers or shell. They are cold blooded animals.

The salamander, like the frogs and toads, is a cold blooded animal. It spent part of its life as a water dweller and part as a land dweller. It wears no scales, fur, hair, feathers or shell. A salamander, like its friends the frogs and toads, is an amphibian.
