Welcome to You Ask Andy

Ann Miller, age 10, of Lyons, Neb.

What direction do you face at the North Pole?

If you travel due north from Omaha, you will finally come to the North Pole  If you travel due north from any place else on earth you will also reach the North Pole  For this is as far north as you can travel on the globe  It would not be easy, however, to stand exactly on the North Pole for the nearest solid ground is deep under the Arctic Ocean  But if you could stand on it, or on solid ice above it, you would face out towards the south  even if you turned completely around on your feet

When you started walking away from the pole, however, you would soon be going in a south, east or west direction.
