Anita Gillen, age 12, of Nampa, Idaho, for her question:

WHAT IS THE LIONS CLUB?

The largest service club in the world is an organization called Lions International. It has about 30,000 clubs and more than a million members in about 150 countries.

Lions Clubs are associations made up of professional and business men who seek to recognize and meet the needs of their communities.

Lions Clubs are famous for their sight conservation campaigns and their work for the blind. They are also active in hearing conservation and work hard to help the deaf. In addition, they promote citizenship, education, health and social services in their communities and work for international understanding and cooperation.

Some Lions Clubs sponsor Leo Clubs for young adults and Lioness Clubs for women.
