Thomas Horton, aged 10, of Phoenix, Arizona for his question:
Is Billy the Kid still living?
William Bonney was born in New York in the year 1850. He was taken to the Golden West when he was still a boy. He lived for a time in Kansas and Colorado. But this fellow was too stupid to enjoy those beautiful states. He considered the rewards of pioneer work were not good enough for him:
In 1865 we hear of him in the cattle wars of New Mexico ‑ always on the wrong side of the law. He became an outlaw, thief and murderer while still in his teens. Honest men hunted this no‑good character.
They called him Billy the Kid.
In 1881, justice finally caught up with Billy the Kid. He was shot down by Sheriff Pat Garrett of Fort Sumner, New Mexico. And America was glad to be rid of one more of its most dangerous enemies ‑an outlaw who murdered his own people.
The answer to the question is no. Billy the Kid is certainly not alive today.
