Welcome to You Ask Andy

Robert Setzero' age 9 of Atlanta, Ga. For is question:

Does a tree grow from the top or the bottom?

A tree grows at both the top and the bottom. It also grows sideways and in every other direction, Year by year it gets bigger all over. The roots grow deep and spread out further under the ground. The branches grow longer wider and higher. New twigs sprout in any direction where there is air and sunlight,

The trunk also gets thicker with the years. The new growth is added from a section just under the bark, New wood is added in circles around the older wood, These circles of new growth are the tree rings that make the pretty grains in boards and panels of wood, New bark is added from the same section which grows the new wood, The older bark cracks to give the new bark growing space.
