What is inside the earth?
Imagine standing on a fiery ball of white hot metal some 4000 miles in diameter. That, say the experts is most likely what the center of the earth is like. Scared? They also tell us that it is safely bottled up under miles of solid rock,
The weight of the outer layers of rock on the earth's core is about 45 million pounds to each square inch. That seems plenty of material to cage; the fiery furnace. It is also enough pressure to reduce the‑white hot metal. to a sort of plastic state, neither gasp solid nor liquid.
The earth keeps her heaviest materials nearest the center. Such heavy stuff would naturally sink towards the center of gravity. Of course, nobody has been down there to see what conditions are like. The guesses are based on certain known facts. And waves from earthquake shocks seem to bear out the theory.
