Welcome to You Ask Andy

Kenny Whiteing, age 1_, of Montebello, Calif., for his question:

How big is a baby kangaroo?

The giant of the family is the Great Grog Kangaroo, also known as Boomer. He may be seven feat tall and weigh 200 pounds. When cornered, no unarmed man is a match for old Boomer. Mrs. Boomer, called the Flyer, is somewhat smaller than her husband.

Junior Kangaroo is called Joey. The world does not see young Joey until he is big enough to peep out from Mama's furlined pouch, by this time the little fellow is six weeks to two months old.

When born, Joey looks like a naked, helpless little mouse. He is about one inch long. He goes right into Mama's cozy pouch where he clings to her fur, feeds and sleeps. As he grows he begins to take more and more interest in the big world outside. When he is about six months, he is too big for his furry cradle and ready to hop along on his own.
