Welcome to You Ask Andy

William Bo11is, age 12, of Gary, n ., for his question:

How big are the pyramids?

Through thousands of years wind and, weather have worn several feet from the tops of the great pyramids at Giza. We can, however, estimate their original sizes.

The Great Pyramid, the largest, covers an area of 13.1 acres. Each of the four sloping sides covers about five acres. Originally the top was 481 feet above the ground, but 31 feet have since worn away. This pyramid is made of blocks weighing from two and one half to 15 tons.

The second pyramid was originally 470 feet tall and. is now 447 feet tall. The third. pyramid is a  baby. Its base covers only about six acres and it stands only 204 feet nigh, less than half the height of its stately brothers.
