Kenneth Severn, age 12, of Leigh, Ne ., for his question:
Are pygmies really green?
The pygmy people are brown. Some are the color of cocoa and some are the color of dark, rich chocolate. None of them are green, for no human beings are green. And the pygmies are certainly human beings. You might say that these little brown fellows are the toy people of the human race.
Pygmies live in certain dense bungles of Africa and the Malay Peninsula. Large sized humans cannot follow them through the tangled thickets of their forest homes. But the little people are usually ready to welcome large visitors to their villages.
To them, these visitors must seem like giants. For a full grown pygmy is about four feet tall. The tribe consists of several families and together they might remind you of a school playground. For the little fellows are playful, full of fun and always ready to laugh. They are, in fact, like children in appearance and in character.
