Where exactly does the Statue of Liberty stand?

Her home is a small island in teeming New York Harbor. As a statue, Miss Liberty is a noble giant, beautiful in her own right. Her message is still more impressive than size or beauty. At her feet lie broken chains and she holds aloft a golden beacon as a symbol of human liberty for all the world to see. Visitors and .home bound travelers pass by her on their way through New York Harbor, gateway of the New World.

Bedloets Island, or Liberty Island, the home of the great statue, is a little more than ten acres of flat land. It is in the Upper Bay, near the Jersey side. This busy bay is lined with mazes of docks and piers. It is sheltered from the Lower Bay and the ocean by a strip of water called the Narrows.

The little island is suitably landscaped. Miss Liberty herself is over 150 feet tall. Her stately pedestal is 150 feet tall. The pedestal rests on a massive block of concrete which reaches down underground for 20 feet to stand on solid bedrock. The wall around the great lady and her pedestal is shaped in the form of a star.
