Welcome to You Ask Andy

David Radford, age 12, of Spokane, Wash., for his question:

What are the natural sciences?

The natural sciences, as you might guess, concern nature. They cover n lot of ground because they include all the living things and all the non‑living things. Biology, the study of living plants and animals is a natural science. Botany and zoology are natural sciences. So are geology, mineralogy and the study of the earth itself. Physics and chemistry are studies of the laws by which the earth keeps going and these two are natural sciences.

Perhaps it is easier to list a few of the studies which are not natural sciences. These arc; the manmade devices and studies. Mathematics is not a natural science, nor is logic as we know it. Philosophy and psychology are also abstract studies which cannot be classed as natural sciences.
