Frederic Of Donnell, age 13, of McNamee, N.B., for his question:
What is an albino?
Animals and human beings got the color of their skin, hair and oyes from certain pigments, Dark people have more of a certain pigment than fair people. Once in a great while a person is born without any pigment at all. He has no coloring material to add to his hair, his skin or his eyes, Usually his skin is milky white, the pupils of his eyes are dark red and the irises are either pink or pale, pale blue. Such a person is called on albino.
This same kind of accident can occur in animals, especially in highly domesticated animals. Some of these albinos are as pretty as frosted cake. The white mice you buy in a pet shop are albinos. Albino parents seem to have albino children, so this accident seems to be inherited, Our white mice usually have white mice children. There are also charming strains of albino guinea pigs and perhaps the most charming albinos of all are those snowy white, pink‑eyed bunnies.
