Danny Johnson, age 7, of Dallas, Texas, for his questions

Where is Plymouth Rock?

The seaside town of Plymouth nestles low in the lap of Massachusetts Bay. There along the waterfront you may see the famous Plymouth Rock, a sizeable boulder protected from the elements under a canopy of sturdy granite. This is the boulder onto which the Pilgrims are supposed to have stepped when they first landed in the New World, and it is preserved as a National Shrine.

The date of the landing according to our modern calendar was December 21, 1620. According to the calendar used in those days the date was December 11,1620. The Pilgrims had sailed the stormy Atlantic for 14 weeks, following a map made by Captain John Smith. He named the place of landing Plymouth from Plymouth, their port of departure in England.
