Russell Whitmoreo age 10, of Indianapolis., In ,, for his question:
How far can you see from up in the sky?
Not so long ago, Andy was flying across the country in a jet plane. The captain told the passengers that they were flying almost seven miles above the ground. The day was clear and Andy got a view of the; ground for more than a hundred miles in all directions. He could see way over the rim of the round earth and the horizon was curved instead of straight. A plane flying lower could have seen a long way, but not nearly so far. For there is a strict law which says that the higher you go, the further you can see. Modern missiles have flown hundreds of miles above the earth. When they get high enough, they can see one entire half of the earth, But because the earth is a ball, we can see only one half at a time, no matter how high up in the sky we go.
