Elizabeth Dixon, age 12, of Philadelphia, Penna., for her question:
How big is Finland?
The country of Finland is about three times bigger than the beautiful state of Pennsylvania and about half as big as the great state of Texas. In area it is 130,119 square miles and the homeland of about five million people.
Finland is a chilly northern land and part of it is inside the Arctic Circle. It is a land of some 60,000 lakes and vast acres of rich timber. The wood from its forests provides Finland’s chief natural resources. Some of it is used as lumber and some is chomped into pulp for making paper. Finland produces more than 100,000 tons of paper each year and about 300,000 tons of fine grade cardboard.
