Welcome to You Ask Andy

Tom Collies, age 9, of Ulysses, Kansas, for his question:

What is a baby raccoon called?

Baby foxes are called cubs, so are baby bears, baby wolves, baby lions, and baby tigers. Even a baby shark or a baby whale may be called a cub, a baby cat, of course, is called a kitten, a baby dog, is a pup and so is a baby seal, as a baby has a very fancy name. It is celled a leveret.

With all this baby talk, you would expect to find a special name for the baby raccoon. After all, the little darling is one of the; cutest babies in the world and certainly one of the most affectionate. But sad to say, so far as Andy knows, he has no special name. You may call him a kitten, a pup or a cub and not be wrong. For he is as playful as a kitten, as mischievous as a pup and as curious as a bear cub.
