Welcome to You Ask Andy

Teresa Lesko, aged,12, of Allentown, PA. for her question:

How much would we weigh on the moon?

The pull of gravity on the moon, we are told, is only about one sixth as powerful as the pull of gravity on the earth. This means that, on the moon, you would weigh one sixth of what you weigh on the earth. You would neon. only one sixth of the energy you use on earth to lift an arm, or take a leap into the air.

Imagine the fun you could have. If you can .jump up two feet on earth, you could jump twelve feet on the moon. If you can lift 20 pounds on earth, you can lift 120 pounds on the moon. You could take giant strides with ease. That would be fun, But remember to take along a supply of oxygen to breathe. For there is no air on the moon. And you would need air whether you did any of this wonderful prancing about or not.
