Jules Abramovitz, aged 8, of Los Angeles, Calif. for his question:
Why does it get dark at night?
The earth is a great ball up in the sky. The is another great ball, much, much bigger and very far away. The sun pours out a lot of heat‑ and light all the –time. A lot of shine sun upon the earth we call it daylight and sunshine.
Now the earth is forever spinning around like a top. Sometimes one side faces the golden sun, sometimes another side, The side facing the sun is in daylight. The other side has no sunlight, It is in darkness. The darkness is night.
While we are having day, the people on the other side of the earth are having night.. For when we face the sun they face the other way. But the old earth keeps on turning.. We turn around from the sunlight, which is day, to the shadow, which is night, The sun does not shine at night because we rare then facing the other way.
