How does the earth rotate?
Stick a thin knitting needle right through the middle of a rubber ball, Now set the ball spinning around the central needle. Hold the needle still and turn the ball from west to east, That is more or less hew the east rotates, However, rod of any sort through the middle of the earth. The central line from pole to pole around which the earth rotates is called the axis,
The entire earth turns around once in just under twenty‑four hours. Naturally, the wide equator has the furthest to travel. It must travel faster than narrower areas nearing the poles. The ground at the equator rotates at about 1,000 miles an hour. Near the poles, the ground turns only a few feet in 24‑ hours, each latitude spins slower, the further it is from the equator.
