Welcome to You Ask Andy

Carol Mowrerp age 12 of Lancaster, PA for her question:

Why are ants called social insects?

Your social life is the time you share with friends, Generally, we understand our social life to mean the time we spend in group recreation and entertainment. However there is no reason why we should not enjoy social life with our team mates in work and school.

The ants carry their social life rather far.  They live together in colonies and no little ant has a private life of its own, What’s more her social life is far from fun and entertainment. All she does is works works, work, And her work is always for the good of the whole colony,

All insects who live together in colonies of this sort are called social insects, The little ants could not survive as individuals, They can only get along if all of them work together for the whole family, The idea may be a good one for ants, But it would not work for human beings, We know that each person should have responsibility and self reliance, And# that can be only if he hag time to work out certain things for himself.
