What causes a monsoon?

Land areas warm faster than the sea.. But the sea holds; its;. heat longer than the land. And the air is warmed as it touches the land. or water below it. On a sunny day. the air over the land is warmer than the sir aver the sem. Warm min tends to rise and become lighter. The cooler. heavier air over the' sea flows into the lighter air called the low‑pressure area. We get m cooling sea breeze. At night. the air over the sea is warmer. The cooled off air over the land flows out to fill the area of low pressure. We have a land breeze.

The great monsoon winds that blow. over Asia change their directions with the seasons.. But they are really large scale land and sea breezes. All summer long: the vast land mass is hot. The air above rises to make a huge low pressure area. Heavier air flows in from the ocean.

As the summer cools off. the land mass loses its heat fast. The ocean and the air above it hold onto their stored up heat. The air over the sea is now warmer than the air over the land. It is the region of low pressure. The: cooler land air must now flow‑ into it. The wind turns‑ around and blows from the opposite direction. The monsoon winds change with the seasons.
