How are frogs different from toads?
It is not always easy to tell these fascinating cousins apart. It takes an expert to tell frogs eggs from toads eggs and frog tadpoles from toad tadpoles. But with grown ups. there are certain differences that you can spot between frogs and toads„
True toads have no teeth. Frogs do have teeth. Both have bony jaws. . Of the two$. the toad is plumper and broader. His eyes are ‑larger and he cannot jump as well as a frog. His skin is rougher and generally covered with bumps. When grown he tends to leave his pond and hop off to live in fields and meadows. He can live in dry placess
The slimmer: more graceful frog stays near ponds and streams. His skin needs moisture and he enjoys life in and out of the water. He is a far better swimmer than his cousin the toad. Come fall.. the frog beds down in the mud at the bottom of a pond or stream. The toad digs himself a hole in the ground and sleeps away the winter.
There are about 90 different frog and toad cousins in the world. They are classed as the tailed amphibians and most of them are toad the rest frogs.
