Sally Pratt, age of Mill Valley, California, for her question:
Does the hummingbird sing?
The lovely little hummingbird has no song to match the jeweltone beauty of his plumage, His voice is like the squeak of a mouse and. that is the only sound he can makes
The humming noise he makes comes from the beating of his wings. They beat so fast that they make a soft whirring in the air. Small as they are, these wings are very strong. They can beat up to 55 times in a single second. This is too fast for our eyes to see. When we watch a hummingbird in flight, his wings look like a fuzzy blur.
