Do Jersey cows come from New Jersey?

The little taffy colored cow with the rich milk is a native of the Isle of Jersey which is in the English Channel. The State of New Jersey was named for this tiny island.

The fishermen on the Isle of Jersey brave the cold seas in knitted woolen sweaters. When these useful garments were adopted in other places they were named for their native home, they were called jerseys. We still call knitted fabrics jersey after the island of sweaters and little taffy colored cows,
