Does the cowbird build a nest?
The cowbird is a relative of the blackbirds. Though you wouldn=t think so to look at him, for he has a brown head. He is one of the two American birds who absolutely refuse to build a nest. Mrs. Cowbird places her bluefish white, brown freckled eggs into the nest of other birds. Sometimes she even places two eggs in one foster home. Her babies hatch in less time that it takes most birds' eggs to hatch, which often dives them a head start on their foster brothers and sisters.
The other non nest builder is the nighthawk. Mrs. Nighthawk lays her eggs upon the ground, a roof or flat rock. She does not place them out for adoption.
