Welcome to You Ask Andy

Charles Noesen, Age 11, of Bridgeport, CT for his question:

What are snowflakes made of ?

The fragile white snowflake is made of ice and air mostly of air. Weather conditions of a snowstorm produce ice in minute particles These particles collect together or crystallize in six sided figures.

Tiny pockets of air are trapped between the fragments of ice together, the ice and air particles combine to make six sided figures of endless varieties. Thousands of them have been photographed – and no two designs have eves been found to be exactly alike.
