Jerry Mitchell, age 15, of New Market, Ala., for his question;
What is Ethnology?
Anthropology is the study of mankind and it covers Every aspect of humanity, past and present. Such a field is too large for much detailed study, so the science of anthropology is subdivided into a number of specialized branches. One of these is Ethnology, a term coined from an older word for nation.
Ethnology is the science that studies the differences in groups of peop1e. The groups may be nations, races or perhaps classes. The Ethnologist pays special attention to how different conditions and environments affect these groups. He observes the customs and cultures that groups perhaps have inherited. HE observes the effects of scientific changes and his work may help to give people a better understanding of each other.
