How accurate is the weather forecast?

The Weather Bureau issues long  term and short term forecasts. And, as you would expect, the short term forecasts have a higher Percentage of accuracy. Even the Weather Bureau finds it easier to predict tomorrow's weather and harder to predict the Weather for next week.

A 12 hoar forecast is issued for aviation and this report on an average is 95% accurate. Over a reasonable period, this short term forecast is wrong only five times in a hundred. The 24 hour forecasts and the 36 hour forecasts are more than 85% accurate. On an average, this is less than 15 wrong predictions in 100.  The use of weather satellites  has improved the accuracy of weather forecasts.
