Welcome to You Ask Andy

Vic Canada, Age 10, Of Nashvilte, Tenn., for his question:

Where is the north star in the big dipper?

The big dipper with its seven bright stars is a guide to polaris, the north star. Find the two bright stars opposite the dipper's handle. They are the pointer stars at the bottom of the dipper. Trace a line from one star through the second pointer star and continue your imaginary straight line over the sky until you carne to a big bright Star. This is polaris, the lode star which hangs above the north pole. It is the last Star in the handle of the little dipper.
