Both the earth and the moon shine with reflected sunlight  The day light side of the moon sends about seven per cent of its shine back into space and some of this falls on the earth as moonlight  The earth also sends some of its sunlight back into apace and some of this falls upon the moan, We call it earth shine,

Earthshine is light which has come from the sun to the earth, been reflected to the moon and then back again to the earth  It pasts a dim glow on the dark side of the moon which happens to be facing the earth  Sometimes we see a bright crescent moon with the rent of the lunar landscape lit with a pale, pale glow of earthshine
