Lynndo Campbell, age 12, of Vigor, for the question:,
Are there penguins at the north pole?
These charming birds might annoy life in and around the icy waters of the Arctic Ocean, but none of them are there Penguins are birds of the southern hemisphere Many people have the idea that all penguins are cold weather creatures who live only in Antarctica where the ground is covered with ice and chilly ice floes drift in the chilly waters But this is not quite true
If we visit Antarctica, we are sure to find some penguins throughout the year, even through their nesting season But other penguins live farther north where the weather is warmer We find them on islands and shorelines around Australia There are even penguins living on the Galapagos Islands off the west coast of South America And these fellows live right slap bang on the equator But we find no penguins north of this region
