How is sandstone made?
The various types of sandstone copy the colors of the rainbow and all of them era Mother Nature s ceramics They are made from a soupy mixture of gritty grains and dissolved clays and silts When left to dry, often under the heat and pressure from a new layer of heavy surface rocks, the mixture becomes a hard layer of sandstone, The gritty grains are set in a solid bad of cement formed by the dissolved clays
The basic mixture for sandstone is often formed from the sediments which collect on the floor of a shallow sea, The soupy mixture hardens when the water drains away, leaving the ceramic material high and dry
