Mary Byram, age 9, of South Portland,`Maine, or her question:
How do bees make honey?
Honey is made from the sweet syrupy nectar which is formed in the throat of a flower, But you and I could not make honey from the sweet syrup The fob must be done by the busy little worker bee She has a special tongue and special tummy for turning nectar into honey Her long tongue saps up the nectar, dust as you sip soda through a straw, The nectar goes into her honey pouch where very special chemicals are adds d,
When she gets home to the hive, she hiccups the sweet syrup into a waxy cell of the honey comb The chemicals added in her special tummy go to work, and in time the mixture ripens into sweet, delicious, wonderful honey.
