Bobby P erkins, age 11, of Dallas, TX for~his question:
Is there salt water in the Great Lakes?
When you sail across one of the Great Lakes, you are soon out of sight of land. All around is a wide expanse of water, just as if you were out on the ocean. Even the waves may look like ocean waves. However, there is one difference. The water in the Great Lakes is fresh water. It is the same fresh water that spills over mighty Niagara Falls. Finally, all this freshwater streams down the St. Lawrence River on its way to Join the sea,
Most of the water in the Great Lakes comes from countless underground springs. Thesprings are filled from ground water. The ground water is rain and melted snow which has seeped down, down into the soil. The rain and snow which kip the big lakes filled is of course, fresh water.
