Clair Ellis age 11, of Logan, Utah, for her question:
Where do lemurs live?
You might think that the charming lemurs are related to the squirrels or house cats. Actually, they are the simplest members of the monkey clan. Africa, India, Ceylon and the Philippines all claim to have lemurs of their own. However, the only true lemurs are natives of a few islands in the Indian Ocean.
The lemur islands are off the east coast of South Africa. The largest island is Madagascar, where at least 50 true lemurs make their homes. Lemurs are also found on the small island of Comoros which is between Madagascar and the coast of Africa.
