Where is the deepest part of the Atlantic?
The floor of the stormy Atlantic is as bumpy as the continent of North America. There are hills, little mounds and a vast chain of lofty mountains. The whole area is not yet fully charted, but we know it better than we know the floor of the vast Pacific ocean. Even so, we may be in for surprises as new discoveries are made.
The average depth of th Atlantic is estimated to be 12,650 feet
which is more than two and half miles. There are several valleys, ditches and. trenches which are much deeper than this. The deepest we have so far discovered is off Puerto Rico. It is 30,246 feet, or more than five and half miles, below the surface of the Atlantic.
