Gordon Anderson, age 11, of Sloan, Iowa, for his questions
What place gets the most rainfall?
As a rule, the regions of dousing rainfall are in the tropics. The Amazon basin, the Congo and the Pacific islands between Australia and Asia all get more, often far more than 80 inches of rainfall in a year. Another rain soaked area is the monboon region of India. One spot in Assam, western India, gets up to 450 inches of rainfall during the yearly monsoon season, This is the second most rainy spot in the world.
First place in this contest goes,, of all places, to a spot in one of our own United States, though this would not have been true two years ago. The rainiest place in the world is Waialeale peak on the island of Kauai of the Hawaiian Islands. The yearly rainfall is about 460 inches.
