Why don't we feel the earth turning
We feel the speed of a fast jet when we are taking off and when we are landing. Once up in the air, traveling at an even pace, we do not feel the speed at all. What we do feel is the acceleration which is the building up of speed and the deceleration which is the slowing down. If the earth were winding up to a faster speed, we would certainly feel. it. If it slowed down its orbital speed, we would feel that too.But the earth revolves and rotates at a fairly even speed and this has been going on since long before we were born, since long before mankind came to live on this planet. Our bodies are used to the fact that the earth turns on its axis once every 24 hours and whisks around its orbit at 181 miles a second. It also travels with the Solar System through the Galaxy at 170 miles a second.
