Welcome to You Ask Andy

Gael Baxleyage 13, of Seattle, WA or her question:

Where is Utopia?

Sad to say, this wonderful place will not be found on your gift globe, or on any map in the world. The word Utopia, is coined from fro older words meaning not and place. Utopia is not a place, or at any rate not a real place. It was invented by the English scholar Sir Thomas More sometime in the early 16th century.

Mores book, Utopia, was first published in Latin in the year 1516. It described an imaginary island commonwealth where government and politics had reached an ideal state. The book was translated into English in 155'1 and since that time, the word Utopia has been used to describe any ideal state of affairs in government or politics.
