Jimmy Gorman, age 12, of Phoenix, Arz., for his question:
Which are the seven seas?
Blow up your beautiful gift globe and study the blue sea areas. As you see, the greater part of our world is covered by water and all of it is Joined together in one big ocean. There are names given to this and that watery region, but there are no definite border lines between them. For all the seas are linked together and their waters mix and merge in one vast ocean.
For convenience, however, we divide the big ocean into seven smaller oceans. They are the North and South Atlantic Oceans and the North and South Pacific Oceans. There is the Indian Ocean which is bigger than most people think. There is the Arctic Ocean, which sits on top of the north pole, and the Antarctic Ocean, which swirls around the south polar continent of Antarctica. This makes seven and since early times, sailors and other world travelers have described them poetically as the Seven Seas.
