What are sun dons?
When the sky is veiled with pale hazy clouds, we sometimes see a huge halo around the sun. This may happen when the sky seems to be quite clear. We sometimes see a halo or two around the moon. These heavenly spectacles are caused by fine ice crystals in the upper air. These fine fragments bend or refract the light from the.sun and the moon to cause halos.
Once in a great whiles we see one or two small suns beside the giant sun. kite call them sun dogs and it looks for all the world as though old Father Sol has suddenly come forth with a pair of puppies. These little suns, like the halos, are caused by icy fragments high in the air. The only time to watch these gaily colored pups is when the sun is low and, of course, the only safe way is through dark glasses.
