Bill Ungard, age 14, of Picture Rocks, Penna., for his questions
Where do cardinal birds spend the summer?
The brilliant coat of the cardinal bird must be as warm as red flannel underwear. For this beautiful bird refuses to be driven sway from his home by the cold of winter, He is a permanent resident over most of has range.
Mr. Cardinal is the only American red bird with a crest on his beautiful head. He has bright black eyes and a tiny black beard under his chin. We find him as a year round resident throughout the central and eastern United States. He avoids Northern New England, but he always is to be found throughout Pennsylvania and he even lives through the cold winters around the Great Lakes.
