Tacy Weeks, age 12, of Woodside, CA for the question:
Was all the land once a single continent?
There is a lot of evidence to support this theory,, though we cannot accept it as a proven fact. The ground is so hard beneath our feet that it is difficult to realize that the continents are really blocks of lighter rock floating on heavier rocks below them, One theory suggests that in the remote past, all this lighter material fcrmed a single continent.
A world map shows a relationship between the eastern shores of the Americas and the western shores of Europe and Africa. These two shores seem to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle, There is evidence in the plan; and animal life of Australia that this island was once a part of the Asian land mass. The theory suggests that the Americas and Australia were once part of the Asian European land mass and that they broke off and floated away countless ages ago.
