Frank, age 8, of Port A berni, B. C,, for her question:
Where is the North Star in the daytime?
Polaris, the North Star, hangs high in the sky almost directly above the North Pole. At the pole it is 90 degrees in the sky, or overhead. Further south at the Aleutian Islands, Polaris is about 52 degrees above the northern horizon, Still further south over the curve of the globe Iowa, at Sioux City,/Polaris is about 43 degrees above the horizon. At Jacksonville, Florida, it is only 30 degrees and at Brownsville, Texas, only 26 degrees above the northern horizon.
The further south we go the lower Polaris occurs in the sky. But wherever it is, there it stays day and night, for Polaris does not rise and set. It is right there during the daytime though we cannot see it because it is out dazzled by the glorious sun.
