John Nord, age 11, of Spokane, Wash,, for his question:
Does the sun move?
The sun turns around on its axis so that we get to see all sides of the blazing sphere once in about 25 days. Since it is a gaseous star, some areas of the surface turn faster than others.
In addition to its rotations the sun is also moving through the Galaxy, along with all the other stars in the heavens. This movement is a vast curving orbit and the sun travels this journey at about 170 miles a second. Traveling with it at this speed is the entire Solar System, which includes our own lovely world.
