Welcome to You Ask Andy

Rodney TicMullen, age 10, of Enid, Oklahoma, for his question:

Is the kiwi extinct?

The people of New Zealand are very fond of their native wild animals and have very strict laws to protect them from extinction. The lucky kiwi is a cherished wild bird and you can bet your best conservation boots that nothing is going to happen to him. He is not extinct and not on the sad list of endangered species. However, dust to make sure he is safe, he is protected by lath.

The odd kiwi might pass for a  tailess chicken with over sized feet and legs and a long spike on his beak wearing a brown fur coat. Actually his long thin silky feathers cover a mini tail and a pair of useless mini wings. Few people ever see the odd kiwi at home among the shrubbery of his dense forest. He is a very shy character who likes to move around at night. When people approach, he quietly walks away and hides.
