Mike O'Lone, age 9, of Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for his question:
Where does the sun go when it goes down?
You may find this hard to believe. But the evening sun does not go anywhere at all. True, it sinks down in our c western sky and disappears out of sight. Or so it seems. But remember, the world is a big round ball and the sky is above every part of the globe. It stretches up above Australia on the opposite side of the world, and also above every land and ocean you can mention.
When the sun goes doom and disappears from our part of the sky, it appears in the sky above some other place around the world. Actually, it stays in the same place and the whole thin? happens because the round earth spins around like a top. In the morning, it spins our part of the globe to face the sun in the eastern sky. As we keep on turning, the sun seems to climb higher and pass overhead. In the evening, we move on and leave the sun behind in the west. Then it shines in the skies above the Pacific and the people of Asia get a chance to see it in their part of the sky.
