Jill Johnson, age 17, of Hudson, Wis., for her question:
HOW DID JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT START?
Junior Achievement is an organization that provides young people practical training and experience in running a business. All senior high school students may join.
The movement was founded in Springfield, Mass., in 1919 by Horace Moses, a paper manufacturer. National headquarters of Junior Achievement, Inc., is now located at 550 Summer St., Stamford, Conn.06901.
A member of Junior Achievement first develops an idea for a product or service. He then sets up a miniature corporation and sells shares for $1 each. Workers in the company become shareholders. Records must be kept and the workers must pay themselves small salaries. At the end of the school year the company is dissolved and the profits paid to the shareholders.
