Welcome to You Ask Andy

Trey Wallace, age 9, of Charlotte, N.C., for his question:

WHAT IS A LORIS?

A loris is a slow moving primate who is related to the monkeys and apes. The slender loris is a native of India and Sri Lanka, while the larger slow loris is a resident of India and Indonesia.

Most lorises grow to be eight to 10 inches long. They are gray or brown and have three cornered faces and large eyes that give them a strange appearance.

The loris lives alone and sleeps all day long with his feet clasped around the limb of a tree and his body rolled into a ball with the head tucked between his thighs. At night he prowls around in search of food. His diet is made up of fruit, insects and bird eggs.

The loris has well developed toes on all four legs which can be used much like fingers on hands.
