Kimberley Davis, age 10, of Muncie, Indiana, for her question:
Which is the world's largest park?
The largest one in the United States is Yellowstone National Park which also happens to rate among the top natural wonders of the world. Its breathtaking scenery covers 2,221,772 acres, which is about one tenth the size of Indiana. Alaska and Florida have huge national parks, though not quite as big, as Yellowstone. But several parks in Africa are big enough to swallow our Yellowstone Park more than 100 times.
The famous parks in Africa are vast territories set aside to preserve the wondrous animals that live there, and nowhere else in the world. Some are called game reserves, though tourists may be allowed to visit. The largest in the world is the Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania. This lovely park for animals and human visitors is in East Africa, facing the Indian Ocean. It covers 11,585 square miles, or more than 268 million acres.
